So I wanted to take some time today to write a testimonial about my most recent client. Yes, that’s right, a CLIENT testimonial. She was really that great of a client. Now I know not everyone can be a natural, but let me share this experience to show how you can be a great client, too.
Let’s call her Optimus Client. Optimus contacted me in the middle of the week asking if I would be able to take on her project. However, she would need it by the end of the week. From the get go, she understood that the deadline was tight and immediately followed her proposal with, “I completely understand if you can’t do it.” Well Optimus already had me hooked. I inquired about the project before accepting to see if I could meet her deadline. Her brief: a vectored album cover with a Kingdom Hearts dreamy effect. Short and sweet, letting me know what program I’d have to use and what the style I’d have to emulate. We discussed rates and Optimus understood that I would have to charge more based on the time constraints and gladly accepted my price.
Her Care Package was even better:
- A SCANNED original sketch that gave me the layout and cut out the sketching stage
- An album cover attempt by a different designer that gave me reference to what she didn’t like
- Specific details she wanted in the design while giving me the right amount of artistic freedom
And then Optimus paid me upfront. At this point, I haven’t even started the project but I’m head over heels for my client. While working on the project, Optimus checked in twice and gave me minimal feedback attached with a “if you can’t, that’s cool.” She recognized that certain changes could take longer than others so she treaded lightly.
When presenting the final product to her, Optimus loved it. She then asked if I could add in the title adding, “I know you’ve already put in a lot of time into this, so if it’s extra [money] that’s fine.” Where did you come from perfect client from above?? Of course I complied with a discounted surcharge, plus I threw in a promo on my website and social media pages. “By the way, how would you like to be credited?” Now I’m crying tears of joy. Where have you been all my life?
Wait, wait, it gets better. The titled version wasn’t even used in the final decision. But when asked if she could still compensate me for the extra work, she responded, “of course. You still spent time on it.” I promised myself I wouldn’t cry again.
If Optimus Client ever needed me to work on another project, I would gladly make time for her. She was a no stress client 1) who prepared me for her project so that I could meet her deadline, 2) gave me a clear idea of her vision, 3) trusted my artistic judgment, 4) understood when additional charges would be applied, 5) paid promptly, and 6) gave credit accordingly before I could even ask. Now that is what I call a happy ending.
Special thanks to my one of my best friends who recommended my services to Optimus Client, endorsing the fairness of my pricing and the quality of my work. Appreciating the #Foxee love.
