Our Story

Foxee Design is an LA-based comic color studio built on a simple belief: color is narrative craft.

Color reveals the story beneath the story, and the people who do that work deserve a career, not just a gig.

Studio Values

Foxee Design believes colorists, and the stories they help tell, deserve to be treated as essential, not an afterthought. That belief shapes who we prioritize and how we work.

We actively seek out and champion narratives from creators whose stories haven't always gotten their due, including work centered on queer characters, characters of color, and communities our industry has too often overlooked. Our talent pipeline works the same way. We build relationships within communities that haven't always had access to mentorship or stable pay in comics. We make sure the door into our studio is visible and open to people who don't always see themselves reflected in the credits page or the awards nominations.

Alexandria’s Story

Alexandria Batchelor is the Founder and Creative Director of Foxee Design. Her moniker Foxee is a nod to Foxy Brown and her Tarantino analog Jackie Brown, two blaxploitation-era figures who redefined Black beauty, womanhood, and female empowerment on their own terms: a legacy Alexandria carries into her own work as a colorist and studio founder.

Alexandria built Foxee Design after years working across animation, editorial, and publishing with experience at organizations including Frederator Networks, Time Magazine, Abrams Books, and Penguin Random House. She learned the hard way that the creative industry's model of isolated freelancers and impossible deadlines wasn't sustainable. A burnout that led to a full stop (and eventually a fresh start) became the foundation for a different kind of studio: one built around structure, loyalty, and the radical idea that colorists deserve career paths, reasonable timelines, and a team that has their back.

Foxee Design develops diverse creative teams and creates the kind of working conditions Alexandria once needed but couldn't find, rooted in a larger mission: expanding creator representation, centering Black women in comics history and leadership, and building a community where emerging colorists can grow without burning out. Because the best color work (the kind that makes a reader feel something they didn't expect) only comes from people who are rested, supported, and given the space to render something meaningful.
