objective

The Frederator Original Digital Cartoon “Slug Riot” by Mike Rosenthal originally premiered on VRV, a new streaming service. Due to an underwhelming reception, Frederator Networks wanted to relaunch the series on YouTube to reach a larger audience. Since the show revolved around indie music, we hoped to build interest by promoting Slug Riot as if it were a touring band.

solution

I worked closely with the VP of Programming, the head of marketing and lead video editor, creating in-video graphics– title card and character cards– and merchandise. When Slug Riot premiered, it only pulled in an average of 17,000 views per episode. After its YouTube relaunch, the show averaged 98,600 views per episode, a 480% increase.

The new trailer transformed the original animated short into a 90’s grunge/punk inspired music video teaser. I designed character cards to introduce band members, pulling character frames from scenes that featured their rebellious antics.

Band merch was developed to increase hype about the show through giveaways on social.
